New physician to oversee thoracic program at MidState Medical Center, Hospital of Central Connecticut

Dr. Stefan Kachala has joined the medical staffs of MidState Medical Center and The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) and will oversee their thoracic program, which provides multidisciplinary, coordinated care to patients who need surgical treatment of the chest – including the lungs, esophagus and thymus. 

Typical conditions treated in the thoracic program include lung cancer, empyema and COPD. Dr. Kachala, a former research fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, comes to Hartford HealthCare from the Cleveland Clinic. His areas of interest include lung cancer, esophageal cancer, thyoma, lung nodules, Barrett’s esophagus, empyema, pleural effusion and minimally invasive surgery.

A thoracic surgeon, Dr. Kachala earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School – Rutgers University and completed an internship in general surgery at New York Presbyterian, Weill-Cornell Medical Center in New York.
