MidState hosts presentation on advances in prostate health

February 07, 2017

Jean Wong, MD, a noted specialist in urology with expertise in prostate health, will provide a free presentation on the latest advances in prostate cancer screening and testing at MidState Medical Center on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Dr. Wong's presentation, which is open to the public, will focus on advances in PSA, or prostate-specific antigen, blood-testing in detecting prostate cancer in its early stages. PSA is a protein produced by both cancerous and non-cancerous tissue in the prostate, a small gland that sits below a man's bladder. The higher a man's PSA level is in his blood, the more likely it is that he has prostate cancer. Dr. Wong will discuss risk factors for prostate cancer and recommended guidelines for PSA testing

Dr. Wong is Board-certified urologist who practices with the Hartford HealthCare Tallwood Urology & Kidney Institute. In addition to discussing the role of PSA testing in detecting prostate cancer, Dr. Wong will also talk about the role of PSA testing for those who have completed treatment for prostate cancer. She will also discuss broader recommended screening guidelines for prostate cancer.

The presentation will take place in conference rooms II and III at the hospital located at 435 Lewis Ave. in Meriden. Free parking is available. Registration is required by calling 1-855-HHC-HERE (855-442-4373).
