Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute Sponsoring Bone Marrow Registry Drive
September 04, 2015
The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute (HHCCI) is sponsoring a Sept. 16 and 17 bone marrow registry drive in New Britain and Meriden with Be The Match Registry and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Connecticut Chapter.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16 the drive will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at HHCCI at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, 183 North Mountain Road, New Britain; and from noon to 3 p.m. in Lecture Room 2 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut New Britain General campus, 100 Grand St., New Britain.
On Thursday, Sept. 17 the drive will be held 2 to 4:30 p.m. at HHCCI at MidState Medical Center, 435 Lewis Ave., Meriden at the Horwitz Conference Center, Rooms II and III.
Every year more than 14,000 patients suffer from a variety of bone marrow functioning diseases including leukemia and lymphoma and need a bone marrow transplant for survival.
At the drive, a painless and quick swab of your cheek is taken and completion of the paperwork will put you on the national registry. You are contacted only if you are found to be a match for a patient. To register you must be between the ages of 18-44, in generally good health and willing to donate to any patient in need. For more information, call 203.694.8631 or visit the Be The Match website.
