Total Joint Educational Program
Patients who plan to undergo Total Joint Surgery are encouraged by their Orthopedic Surgeons to attend the Total Joint Education Program. This comprehensive Educational program is coordinated through the Orthopedic Services Department. Convenient morning classes are offered twice a month on Wednesdays. This program will help you to better understand what will occur before and after your surgery. Representatives from the following areas will be available to offer information and answer questions specific to your individual needs:
- Physical Therapy
- Discharge Planning
The Discharge planning process helps patients to determine the optimal course of rehabilitation post operatively, whether it be returning home with homecare services or going to a short-term rehabilitation facility. Surgical patents who participate in pre-operative education classes often feel better prepared for their surgery. We will not only assist you in getting ready for surgery, but also in preparing for your recovery.
Preparation for surgery, recovery and a pre-planned discharge are an important part of your care. For this reason we are providing an educational interactive guide with important instructions and information to prepare you for your upcoming surgery. The educational guide is intended to answer many of the questions you may have. It outlines the things you need to do before, during, and after surgery. Planning tools, advice on medications, diet recommendations and exercise recommendations are also included. We encourage you to complete the entire guide carefully. After viewing the guide you will be asked to send us your feedback and let us know if you still have questions.
