The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at MidState Medical Center has a strong commitment to providing both our patients and their families not only with excellent medical care, but also compassionate emotional support. With this mind, body and spirit approach at the forefront of the care we provide, we offer several integrative therapies to help our patients find extra comfort during a challenging time.
Integrative medicine takes a variety of forms, and research has shown that integrative therapies have many benefits for patients. Often, they are used as a complement to traditional Western medicine. They can support the body's natural ability to heal itself, strengthen the immune system, reduce stress, decrease pain and promote a state of relaxation and positive well-being.
We offer the following therapies at no cost to our patients:
Reiki: Energy Therapy to provide relaxation and balance, provided by trained volunteers.
Soft Touch Relaxation Rubs: Hand and foot massage, provided by trained volunteers in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Support Groups: Allows the exchange of information and ideas in a safe, supportive environment.
Art Therapy: Helps people whose lives have been touched by cancer find strength and hope through creative expression.
Journaling: Provides guidance in writing down thoughts that exploring feelings to clarify concerns.
Healthy Steps: Exercise for breast cancer survivors to prevent complications from treatment.
Chair Yoga: Exercise to increase flexibility by stretching, toning and strengthening muscles.
Pilates: Exercise for breast cancer survivors to increase core strength and improve muscle tone and posture.
Music Therapy: Decreases anxiety, provides diversion and meets physical, emotional and cognitive needs of the patient.
Meditation & Guided Imagery: Instruction in methods to quiet the mind and provide relaxation.
