Hospitalist Care
Hospitalists are medical doctors who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide ongoing and immediate care. MidState Medical Center boasts a robust hospitalist program comprised of more than 21 experts who are trained in the field of hospital medicine.
While you are in the hospital, our hospitalists will work with your primary care physician to ensure continuity of care and a seamless transition to home, once you are discharged. Patients are encouraged to think of hospitalists as a partner with their regular doctor, one who is working as a member of the healthcare team to assist in your return to good health.
There are many benefits to hospitalist care:
- Hospitalists are always available to monitor your progress and respond to any changes in your condition.
- Under a hospitalist's care, you'll have more opportunities to speak with a medical professional regarding your treatment.
- Studies have shown that hospitalist programs reduce the length of time a patient spends in the hospital.
- Hospitalist care allows primary care physicians to spend more time with their patients in the office setting, while feeling assured that their patients are receiving the very best care in the hospital.
Patients generally have many questions about the hospitalist program. To learn more, please read our Hospitalist Brochure and Frequently Asked Questions Guide.
Through our Pastoral Care program, sensitive and compassionate care is provided to patients and families of diverse spiritual and cultural backgrounds. We recognize that each person is unique and comprised of body, mind and spirit.
Our chaplain, a valued member of the health care team, works closely with local clergy to ensure that patients and family members receive spiritual/pastoral care that contributes to their health and healing.
There is a chaplain in the hospital Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to respond to the pastoral/spiritual needs of patients and families. An on-call chaplain is available upon request in the evening, on holidays and during the weekend.
The Napier Chapel is located on the first floor of the main building and is open 24 hours a day. It is quiet space for prayer, meditation and reflection appropriate for persons of all faith traditions. There are written materials on display, which may be taken for use in the hospital or at home.
The Pastoral Care office can be reached by calling 203.694.8369. The chaplain is available by beeper at 860.279.2680.
