In the News … SURGICAL SPECIALISTS are now performing new and less-invasive techniques for varicose veins and venous ulcers.
Chronic venous disease of the legs include a spectrum ranging from cosmetically undesirable and sometimes painful varicose veins, to inflammation and the formation of ulcers. Such conditions have historically been managed either by compression stockings and boots, and/or by surgical removal of the veins. In many cases, this necessitates a lengthy operative procedure involving many incisions, and often a painful and protracted post-operative recovery period. Even after surgery and using compression boots, venous ulcers often recur and can cause significant discomfort, consume healthcare resources and adversely affect one's quality of life.
Although the principles of removing the veins to treat these symptoms remains the same, the techniques by which this can be accomplished has radically changed. By utilizing such techniques as transilluminated powered phlebectomy, subfascial ligation of the perforating veins that can cause ulcers, or sclerotherapy, veins can be quickly removed either through a few tiny incisions or by simple injections. These techniques are gaining popularity and are being implemented by surgeons across the nation with high patient satisfaction.
We at the SURGICAL SPECIALISTS Group are proud to offer these techniques for our patients. For further information, please contact us. We will be happy to discuss all possible options and determine which course of action is best for you.
