Do you participate in my insurance plan?
The best way to determine whether or not our services are covered by your insurance plan is to call the plan directly. It is also important to ask whether or not MidState Medical Center services are covered, as we perform all of our surgeries there.

Do I need to bring my insurance card to my appointment?
Yes, it is always important to bring your insurance card to any appointment, particularly a specialist like SURGICAL SPECIALISTS Surgical Group.

Do I need a referral for my visit to this office?
Your insurance carrier decides whether or not you are required to have a referral. Check your policy or call them directly.

Is there a co-pay for my office visits?
Each insurance plan varies. We recommend that you contact your carrier directly.

Should I bring copies of my tests and x-rays with me?
Yes. You should visit the facility where your x-rays were conducted to get the films and reports and bring them to your visit appointment. Contact the physician who ordered your lab tests and ask for the results to be faxed to our office BEFORE your visit.

When can I refill my prescription?
You will need to call our office by 2 p.m. Monday - Thursday, and Friday by 12 p.m. if you need a physician to write a new or refill prescription.

Why must I provide you with the same information I've already given the hospital or another physician's office?
We are a separate office and don't have access to information you provided to other groups. We apologize for the inconvenience, but must ask you to provide us with accurate and up-to-date information upon your visit.

If I have cancer and surgery is recommended should I see a specialist?
Surgical oncology is part of general surgery. Our surgeons are trained in the most advanced cancer surgery techniques.

Am I a candidate for laparoscopic surgery?
In general, laparoscopic procedures have been shown to be advantageous for a number of elective surgeries. However, a detailed evaluation of each patient and problem is necessary to determine suitability.

Where will I have my surgery?
SURGICAL SPECIALISTS surgeons perform all inpatient and outpatient procedures at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, CT.

Will I receive bills for my surgery in addition to the SURGICAL SPECIALISTS  bill?
Typically our patients receive separate bills from MidState Medical Center and from an anesthesiologist. In some cases bills may also come from a lab or other services involved in the surgical process. Questions regarding these bills are best directed to the provider of the service.

Why did I get a bill from another surgical group as well as SURGICAL SPECIALISTS?
For some surgical procedures it is required that a second surgeon participate as an assistant. If you have questions regarding their bill it is best to contact them directly.
